Sir,
The wedding of a daughter/son is an auspicious and happy occasion. But, it is definitely not an event to flaunt one’s wealth or compete inostentations spending, leading to huge wastage of food, noise pollution and destruction of flora and fauna. It is painful to see people spending several crores on a single wedding. Spending such huge amounts on a wedding is a false show of your love for your child. Moreover, it is also insensitive to those parents who cannot even afford a decent wedding of their daughter. It is like eating a lavish meal in front of a hungry man. The initiative taken by the J&K Govt needs to be followed by other states. Politicians and rich businessmen need to set a personal example.
The move of the J&K Govt to trim fat weddings and other social functions is a welcome step. Wedding celebrations among the affluent and high profile families is a big extravaganza and filthy show of wealth, caring least for the wastage of food when many in our country sleep without a morsel. The number of guests at a wedding fixed at 400-500 can be further sealed down. The Govt should enforce these guidelines in letter and spirit while other states must emulate this move.
People are very happy that under Guest Control Order, there will be no gifts with invitation cards and no loudspeakers to create sound pollution. This order aims at making the society decent and sober.
Yours etc..
