JAMMU, Aug 28: Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Jammu and Field Outreach Bureau, Kathua, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting here today organized a webinar on Pradhan Mantra Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY).
The webinar was conducted under the overall supervision of Devpreet Singh, Additional Director General, PIB North Zone. Neha Jalali, Deputy Director, PIB and Regional Outreach Bureau, J&K; Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Prof. Department of Economics, Central University Jammu and Bashir Ahmad Mir, Senior Executive, J&K Bank, Srinagar participated in the webinar.
Devpreet Singh in her address threw light on the broad contours of PMJDY and outlined the vision of the government.
She said that the scheme aims at banking the unbanked by opening Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account with minimal paperwork, relaxed KYC, e-KYC, zero balance and zero charges.
She also mentioned about Ru-pay Debit Card and overdraft facility available under PMJDY and said that micro-pension and micro credit would help saving weaker sections from the clutches of money lenders.
Earlier, Neha Jalali said weather it is COVID-19 financial assistance, PM-Kisan, increased wages under MGNREGA, life and health insurance cover, the first step was to provide every adult with a bank account, which PMJDY was achieving successfully.
Bashir Ahmad Mir, Senior Executive, J&K Bank, Srinagar shared figures of J&K Bank under PMJDY saying that a total 17.29 lakhs accounts have been opened in J&K Bank under the scheme out of which 16.78 lakhs are opened in UT of J&K and 9.21 lakhs are women account holder in J&K.
He also said that 12.28 lakhs of Ru-pay cards have been issued under the scheme in J&K. Loan facility to PMJDY account holders at interest rate of 7.5% ranging from Rs 2000 to Rs 10,000 without any security.
Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Prof. Department of Economics, Central University, Jammu in her address said that PMJDY focuses on providing financial solutions to the economically underprivileged.
The webinar was attended by Banks officials from Srinagar, Rajouri & Jammu, Officers of PIB and ROB, I&B Ministry, Teachers and Students of Central University.
