KISHTWAR, Sept 8: In a stern warning to local terrorists operating from Pakistan, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh today said they will not be allowed to live in peace there.
“We want to give a clear message to the traitors (local terrorists) who have gone across the border and trying to revive terrorism here (in Jammu and Kashmir) that they cannot live in peace there because we will reach them there and those who are supporting them from here will be dealt with sternly,” the police chief told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
He said the security agencies have already started attaching the properties of the Pakistan-based terrorists and the action will continue against them.
He said Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts have remained a target of militants in the past but the security agencies are vigilant and will not allow a foothold to them.
“The Doda-Kishtwar range is being guarded heavily by security forces with the cooperation of the local population. The bad elements trying to revive terrorism will be given a befitting reply,” Dilbag said.
Asked about the recent busting of a hideout being used by longest surviving Hizbul Mujahideen militant Jehangir Saroori in the higher reaches of Kishtwar, the DGP said action is going on to neutralize him along with his couple of associates.
“He (Saroori) has reached that stage of life where he is close to his grave. We want him to take there but if somehow he survives, he is himself nearing his end. Time is not far when he will be in his grave,” the police chief said, adding most of those linked with the militant were neutralized over the period of time but a couple of his associates are still moving with him and they will be neutralized soon.
He said they are having a close watch on the areas where they are suspected to be hiding and action is going on against them.
Saroori’s cave hideout was dismantled by police in collaboration with the troops of Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a meticulously planned operation in the Paribag area of Bhadat Saroor on September 5.
Saroori joined militancy in the early 1990’s and is believed to be hiding in the higher reaches of Kishtwar district. Saroori’s brother Abdul Karim Butt was detained under the stringent Public Safety Act for being a terrorist associate on August 3.
The DGP said strong action is also going on against the militants in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
“They (Pakistan-based terrorists) tried to sow the seeds of militancy in Rajouri and Poonch (districts). A strong action to destroy this seed is going on,” the DGP said, adding many infiltration attempts were foiled this year.
He said those sitting across were planning to infiltrate terrorists through Rajouri into nearby Reasi and ultimately to Kashmir or directly into Kashmir from Rajouri but all these attempts were thwarted.
