Water crisis in Katra: DC Udhampur intervenes on request of hoteliers

UDHAMPUR, June 4: Acting swiftly on the request of Hotel & Restaurant Association Katra,  Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Ravinder Kumar convened  a meeting of the concerned departments,  including Public Health Engineering (PHE), Police,   Revenue, Traffic Department  and the representatives  of the Association in which the water crisis in Katra due to stoppage of supply point at Jhajjar River in Udhampur district side due to the conflict between the parties managing the water supplying point to tankers,  was discussed in detail.
Rakesh Wazir, president HRAK, while speaking on the occasion, said that pilgrim season is at its peak at Katra and stoppage of tankers from water supply point, which used to provide water to more than 150 tankers in a day, has worsened the water supply situation at Katra with the result that many hotels and guest houses have got closed due to that. “The remaining are getting water at the exorbitant prices between Rs 4000 to Rs 5000 per tanker and we request for immediate intervention of the administration in this serious matter,” he added.
Shyam Lal Kesar, chairman of the Association, too emphasised for intervention of district administrations of both the districts of Reasi & Udhampur to resolve the water crisis, which is will otherwise effect Yatra in a big way as it had happened in Shimla.
Ravinder Kumar, DC Uhampur, listened to the representatives patiently and gave on spot directions for reddressal of this water crisis. He  further assured that any thing effecting Yatra will be taken very seriously and steps for that,  including management of f water supply point  by PHE,  will be taken at the earliest.
The meeting,  among others,  was attended by Addl Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal, Add SP  Faisal Qureshi, ARTO Kuldeep Singh, Tehsildar Udhampur Ved Parkash, Naib Tehsildar Vijay Kumar, PHE officials, Association representatives Sudershan Sharma and  Neeraj Jamwal.
