Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Waste Management in Rural areas’ DE Mar 21.
It seems that the attention of the Government goes directly to urban areas when it comes to sanitation. Huge sums are provided for keeping cities clean, though the situation on the ground may be different. The Government has never bothered to overcome insanitary conditions in villages. The roads are dirty, potholed and broken. Garbage is seen littered through the streets.
More disturbing is the fact that under Swachh Bharat Mission there is provision for rural sanitation but no one takes this into consideration. Rural Development Departments seem to be ignorant about it. And if they are in the know of things they ignore the issue.
The garbage management in rural areas can serve two purposes. It can help the villages clean and at the same time generate employment opportunities for people. The author in his write up has described how the people of Tamil Nadu are successfully running the garbage management programmes in the State.
Hope, the same pattern is adopted in our State also.
Yours etc…..
Veer Singh
