Ward 58 people oppose change in name of park

JAMMU, Feb 4: The people from Ward No. 56 of Jammu have strongly opposed the change in the name of Rajiv Gandhi Park as proposed by the JMC.
Former Chairman of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and senior Congress leader Satish Sharma said that proposal with regard to the change of name of Rajiv Gandhi Park at Gangyal has been proposed by the local Councillor by misleading the House.
Sharma said this park was built in the name of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during 2006. It was constructed by the funds provided by the Floriculture department. JMC has nothing to do with it. The Floriculture Department had erected a Board at the Park but that Board as also removed by the local Councillor. This Park has now become the identity for the people of the area. Therefore changing its name will be most unfair and unjustified move.
Former JMC Chairman warned to launch an agitation if the name of this park was changed by the JMC. He alleged that local Councillor has misled the House and Divisional Administration on the name proposal.
