JAMMU, Dec 19: Two-three Nallahs in Ward number 52 of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) cause disturbance during rainy season as these get flooded and the water gushes into residential houses causing damage.
Informing more in this regard, Ajay Gupta, Councillor of the Ward said there are a total four Nallahs in the Ward.
“Due to repeated floods in these deep and big drains, some 10-15 houses along the Nallahs in Ambedkar Nagar, 10-12 in Trikuta Nagar South Extension and 10-15 in Trikuta Nagar Extension-1 adjoining Railway Line to Marble Market have started sinking,” he maintained adding: “Due to lack of funds, no repair-construction work could be done in this regard to prevent floods in the Nallahs.”
The Councillor also said that Nallah floods even damage lanes and destroy drains and the ERA has selectively left a Nallah in his Ward with 2.5 km length in the year 2015-16 while construction of other Nallahs was smoothly done in rest of the city.
In an exclusive interaction with the Excelsior, Ajay Gupta, who politically belongs to BJP and is a first time Councillor said his Ward include areas from Adarsh Enclave to Satyam Resort and all the areas along Railway Line from Satyam Resort to Preet Nagar main road.
“Construction and repair of lanes and drains is almost 70 per cent complete in my Ward while blacktopping is almost done and street lights are also almost installed in whole of the Ward and only 250 lights are still to be installed in some areas,” he said adding that of the installed street lights the damaged ones are being repaired in routine.
The JMC Councillor also said that stray dogs are there in his Ward creating a lot of problems for the people.
“These canines not only litter here and there but they also bite people and chase two wheelers besides having created a wave of terror among women, children and old age people,” he continued.
Gupta claimed that there are some drug addicts and peddlers active in the Ward for which the police should take a cognizance.
“Cases of thefts involving iron gratings from the drains have also been reported from the Ward and the police has helped in recovering most of the stolen gratings,” he further said.
“There are three public parks in the Ward of which two are in good condition and one along the canal is poorly maintained while none of these parks has Open Air Gym but there are lights and properly tiled walkways,” the JMC Councillor said.
He informed that there is no parking place for vehicles, no playground, no public toilet and no Ward office in his Ward.
“There are 46 Safai Karamcharis in my Ward but there is a need of 55. Despite this shortage there is good cleanliness in the Ward due to hard work by the available workforce,” Gupta claimed.
He said that there are two garbage collecting autos in the Ward and these are doing good work but one more such auto is needed.
“The dumps of garbage have been reduced from the day these autos were pressed into service,” the Councillor said.
He claimed that water supply in the Ward is made on alternate days and informed that he tried hard for two tube-wells in the Ward but the same could not be done due to official red tape culture in the offices of concerned department.
Gupta said that in some areas of the Ward new pipes for water supply are yet to be laid.
It is pertinent to mention here that over four years of the mandatory tenure of five for the elected body of JMC have passed by now and many developmental works have not been completed while many of such works have not even seen light of the day.
“Hanging wires and damaged poles are there in some areas of my Ward and these needs correction for which tendering has been done,” the Councillor said.
He informed that Shishu Smadhis in the Ward are in bad condition due to lack of cooperation by some locals and residents near this place are disturbed due to poor drainage, correction of which was hindered by objections from some locals there.
The Councillor said that almost all the residents of his Ward have made their Ayushman Cards and almost all the eligible Voters have got their Voter Cards and same is the status of Domicile Certificates.
The JMC Councillor said that there is no health centre in his Ward while there is a Community Hall near Bharat Mata Park.
He informed that many widows, old age persons and physically challenged persons of his Ward are getting pension but the newly introduced rule for these pensions exclusively for Below Poverty Line people is creating problems for others and it should be removed immediately.
Gupta said that some part of Ambedkar Nagar in the Ward is not regularized and survey was going on for numbering houses in the Ward.
He also said that Water Coolers are there in the Ward and in good working condition.
