JAMMU, Dec 13: Continuing its activities to bring awareness among the people, Wake Up Jammu team today organized voter awareness workshop in collaboration with Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries at Chamber House today.
District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu was the chief guest while President Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rajesh Gupta presided over the function. Among others all the office bearers of Jammu Chamber of Commerce and members of the business community participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sahu urged upon the business community to come forward to create voter awareness to achieve maximum electoral participation. He also threw light on the facility of VVPAT available in three urban constituencies where voter can verify their votes on a screen attached to the EVM. He also urged the masses to cast their votes in the coming Assembly elections on December 20, 2014. Earlier, a similar function was organized by District SVEEP Team at GGM Science College Jammu where a symposium was held on the topic “Voter is future and vote is power” in which ten students participated.
Returning Officer Jammu East K.S. Sambyal was chief guest and Nodal Principal Science College Satinder Singh presided over the function. Anil Verma from District SVEEP Team sensitized the students about the importance of their vote and explained the SVEEP activities and their significance to enhance the voters participation. Prof. Ashok Bhagat, College Ambassador delivered vote of thanks and announced the result of symposium in which Abhinav Salgotra got the 1st prize and Sachin Abrol and Sudersan Singh bagged the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
A similar kind of activity was organized by District SVEEP Team at Govt. Medical College Jammu where a debate was held on the topic ‘voting our right and responsibility’. A poster making competition also held at GMC in which students made different posters showing the importance of voting participation for strong democracy.
A signature campaign was also held at GMC in which all the Doctors as well as students participated. All the students as well as Professors of Govt. Medical College took pledge to cast their vote on December 20. All these programme were organized on behalf of District Election Officer, Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu.
