JAMMU, June 12: The Anganwadi workers and helpers engaged by the ICDS wing of the Social Welfare Department in 230 centres of Dansal-Nagrota Block of Jammu district, have been denied wages of four months.
Dansal-Nagrota Block unit president of Anganwadi Workers Union, Rama Kumari alleged that over 460 Anganwadi workers and helpers of this block have not been paid their wages by the officers concerned during December 2014 to March 2015. She said the workers and helpers were projecting their issue before senior officers since long but they have not been paid till date by the higher authorities for the reason best kown to them. She said there seems some thing `fishy’ and Mission Director or Commissioner/ Secretary SWD should hold inquiry into the matter.
She further said that due to lockdown after Covid-19 pandemic, the poor Anganwadi workers and helpers were facing starvation. While Govt and NGOs are providing financial help to many poor and needy, the J&K UT Administration has not paid them wages of the last last six months. She demanded that pending 6 months wages should also be released in favour of poor Anganwadi workers and helpers of Jammu district.
