JAMMU, Feb 12: `Bouna Rukh’- Punjabi translation of SSP Shalendra Singh’s Dogri novel `Hashiye Te’ was released today at India International Centre, New Delhi.
Translated by Baljit Singh Raina, the novel narrates story of three generations since Independence of the country, who remain deprived of Government schemes for the BPL (Below Poverty Line) people.
N N Vohra, former Governor of erstwhile J&K State, was the chief guest while DGP of J&K Police, Dilbag Singh also graced the occasion.
In his address, Mr Vohra stressed that more books should be translated in local languages for widening their reach. “National book Trust should do more work in this direction and get maximum books translated and published to avail the same at low price,” he added. Mr Vohra also shared his experiences as then Governor of J&K State and the works done for growth of Dogri languages during his tenure.
DGP Dilbag Singh appreciated depth of the novel’s writer Shalendra Singh as well as translator Dr Baljit Singh about understanding the society and its sensitivities.
IPS Dr Manmohan, in his address, informed that world Dogar (Dogri) was used by Baba Sheikh Farid in Punjabi literature. He also sought to explain Fredrick Jemson’s theory of Utopia through the novel.
Head of the Punjabi Department in Delhi University, Dr Ravinder Kumar presented a paper on the novel, which he said, narrates about disparity in the society and capturing of resources by the elite class.
Shalendra Singh delivered vote of thanks while the stage was managed by Dr Yadvinder Singh, Assistant Professor in Punjabi Department of DU.
Besides Baljit Singh Raina, teachers and scholars of the Punjabi Department in Delhi University were present on the occasion.
