Srinagar, Mar 21: Scores of vocational and seasonal teachers working for the Department of Education today protested here, seeking pay hikes and the development of a job policy.
Two groups of teachers gathered at Partap Park, Press Enclave here and raised slogans in support of their demands. They urged that a job policy be devised for them, as well as an increase in their pay. “The government promised us that an employment program would be developed in our favor,” claimed a teacher from the Jammu and Kashmir Vocational Trainers’ Welfare Union.

Another group of teachers protested under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir seasonal teacher forum, claiming that they only work for six months and that their jobs should be extended full year. “We demand a job policy where we only work for six months,” they claimed. “The cabinet has given assurances on multiple occasions, but the local administration has done nothing,” a teacher stated.
Both groups claim that despite working harder than general line teachers, the government has failed to create a job policy for them. “Apart from teaching, we also have to arrange guest lectures and other things, “a teacher said, adding that the government is paying them less than general teachers whose job is limited to teaching.
They demanded that Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha intervene in the matter and save the future of their families.
