JAMMU, May 10: On the eve of International Nursing Day, Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Hospital today organised a function to observe the day in the hospital.
The function among others was attended by members of Management Committee of the hospital, all doctors and para-medical staff.
Dr T R Raina, Administrator of the hospital, conducted the programme. He informed the audience that Florence Nightingale, a social reformer was born on 12th May 1820. Despite resistance from the parents, she took the cause of serving the injured soldiers during Crimean War especially in the night hour with lamp in her hand for which she was popularly known as ‘Lady With Lamp’.
Dr Raina said recognizing services rendered by the lady to the needy patients, her birthday is celebrated as an International Nursing Day worldwide.
A video film depicting life and work of Florence Nightingale was also screened on the occasion.
