JAMMU, Aug 10: Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA), Jammu conferred Life Time Achievement Award on Virendra Singh Rahi of New Delhi, keeping in view his contribution & achievements in the field of Art & Art Education.
Rahi was honoured in an award ceremony organized at Press Club of India, New Delhi, as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of JKCCA. Padam Bhushan Ram V Sutar, veteran sculptor of the country was the chief guest of the award ceremony. H N Sharma, former Political Advisor to the then PM Chander Shekhar was the guest of honour whereas Mushtaque Ali was the special guest on this occasion. A shawl, memento and citation were presented to Virendra Singh Rahi during the award ceremony.
Eminent artists from different states and a large galaxy of artists and writers attended the function. They included Ramesh Bhosale (Pune); Dr A K Dixit, Sabia Khan, Deepika Dixit, Nawal Kishore, Bharat Partap Singh and Kishore Roy (New Delhi); K S Gill and Dharminder Sharma (Amritsar); O P Sharma (Jammu & Kashmir) and Pritima Singh (Lucknow) were also present in the ceremonial event.
According to O P Sharma, director of JKCCA, Rahi is known for his artistic expressions of rich philosophical doctrine, cultural heritage and aesthetic beauty of India’s art & culture, immersed in the intricate world of Miniature Paintings and murals, often reflecting on the ancient masterpieces within the Ajanta Caves, weaving themes from classical texts, including the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavad Gita, the Gita Govinda, the Puranas, and the timeless works of Kalidasa.
Rahi’s myriad accolades and honours include his selection as an advisor on arts by the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in 2004. He has been the vice- president of the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi, along with his tenure as a senior advisor to the Arts Curriculum Committee of the Central Board of Secondary Education.
