UDHAMPUR, Dec 20: Villagers of Kulwanta today protested for completion of under construction PMGSY road to Bari Ladana in Ramnagar tehsil.
The protest was held under the leadership of Khem Raj Sarpanch, who was assisted by Mohd Iqbal Panch, Shah Nawaz Panch, Babu Ram, Rajinder Singh, Ajay Singh and others.
They raised slogans against the PMGSY Department and appealed the Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu for his personal intervention to ensure completion of this road under PMGSY, unit Ramnagar.
The entire village is dependent on this road and people suffer because it has not been completed by the contractor for the last more than a year, they said. “This 14.5 km road from Kulwanta to Bari Ladana under PMGSY Package number JK14-206 was to be completed with an amount of Rs 789.79 lakh by March 2018 but even after the lapse of more than an year since its deadline, the road is incomplete,” the villagers explained and added that despite complaints to the PMGSY Department, no action was taken.
“These days, condition of this road is so bad that we can’t even walk on it and it is risky to carry sick and old persons, pregnant women to Sub District Hospital Ramnagar and DH Udhampur because of big potholes. The school going children also suffer during these rainy days as the road remains completely closed,” they added.
