UDHAMPUR, May 21: Villagers of Dandota Panchayat in Teshil Panchari, District Udhampur, protested against PHE Department for no supply of drinking water to the village for the last two years.
Because of no supply by the PHE Department, the villagers are dependent on natural sources of water, which are around two kms away from the village.
“At these natural sources, the water is not pure but mixed with grubby, which we drink with the result small kids and elderly used to get intestinal problem and infection,” said the villagers and appealed to Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu to take note of their problem for addressing the issue.
In 1994, a new pipeline connecting Lander Panchayat to Dandota Panchayat was laid and there was no water crisis in the area till 2015, when Lander to Bamat road work was started. Because of this road work, water pipe was removed and a new connection was provided in 2018, which supplied water for two months only, they elaborated.
Despite repeated pleas to the concerned authorities, even at the higher level, no action was taken by the PHE Department, with the result that people continue to suffer for the last two years, said the villagers.
