Vigilance detects wastage of public money by R&B

SRINAGAR, Oct 26: Vigila-nce Organization Kashmir has initiated detailed verification in alleged wastage of Rs 150.17 lakh on a Balley bridge by R&B Division Shopian.
A joint team of Vigilance Organization Kashmir, comprising of Muzamil Ahmad Rafiqi, Assistant Executive Engineer VOK and Inspector Farooq Hussain (VOK), conducted joint surprise check in the office of Executive Engineer R&B Division Shopian and found that Balley Bridge on Nallah Rambiara at Trenz has been constructed by R&B Shopian without Administrative approval and technical sanction.
Further, the 2×24 meter span Balley Bridge,  constructed at a DPR cost of Rs 82.64 lakh, was found collapsed  during the JSC and the Vigilance team  also came to know that the bridge  had not been designed at all before constructing it. It has further emanated during the course of JSC that during the last 2 years at this spot, the restoration has been shown done five times for construction of four stone masonry abutment in wire crates with RCC Jacketing at a cost of Rs 34.46 lakh, restoration of Trenz Sheikhpora road by way of crate bund at a cost of Rs 4. 92 lakh, restoration of washed away vented causeway on Trenz Sheikhpora road by way of RBM filling, laying of RCC pipes and crate protection works (Right side) (flood damage) at a cost of Rs 10.67 lakh including cost of pipes/crates and permanent restoration by way of construction of RCC approach walls and Nallah protection work of 7×20 meter Rambiara Bridge in Km 47th on Pampore-Shopian Road at a cost of Rs17.48 lakh.
Thus during the course of joint surprise check,  an amount of Rs 150.17 lakh  has  been found wasted by the R&B Division, which  should have proposed a permanent bridge for sustaining the peak discharge. Likewise, crores of rupees have been spent by the said Division on other spots of the same Nallah (Rambiara) at Batpopra and other spots.
Detailed verification has been taken up in hand by the Vigilance Organization to establish the nexus on part of the Engineers and contractors for wasting Govern-ment funds.
