Vice chief stresses for Intl based operations in Kashmir

SRINAGAR Feb 9: The vice chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Sarath Chand today asked troops to conduct intelligence based operations and sustain pressure on the militant groups and maintain a tight vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) to foil infiltration attempts.
The Vice chief arrived here this morning to review security situation and operational preparedness of troops in Kashmir and along the LoC.
Lt Gen Chand visited the Formations and Units in North Kashmir along the LoC. He was briefed by the Commanders on ground on the operational preparedness as well as the measures taken to meet the security and weather related challenges.
The vice chief also interacted with the troops and emphasised on the need for undertaking relentless intelligence based operations to sustain pressure on the terrorist groups and maintain a high degree of vigil along the Line of Control to eliminate any infiltration bid.
Later in the day, the General Officer arrived at Badami Bagh Cantonment where he was received by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen AK Bhatt. He was briefed about the prevailing security situation in Kashmir and efforts made by security forces to deal with it.
Defence Secretary, Sanjay Mitra, also reviewed the security situation in Kashmir and along the LoC today.
The Defence Secretary who arrived here this morning visited the forward areas along the Line of Control in North Kashmir where he was briefed on the prevailing security situation and also interacted with the Commanders and troops on ground.
The Secretary was also briefed on the close coordination amongst all the Government agencies in maintaining peace in the region.  He also visited Badami Bagh Cantonment where he was briefed by Lt General AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander about the counter infiltration and counter militancy grids functional in the Valley.
He was given detailed account of how the militants from across the LoC are trying to infiltrate into Kashmir and how troops are maintaining vigil to foil such attempts.
He was also given a detailed account of counter-militancy operations in Kashmir.
Mitra appreciated the various measures instituted to strengthen the security posture and the good job being done by all the security forces.
Meanwhile, Lt Gen Surinder Singh, Western Army Commander, today visited forward areas of Samba and Pathankot sectors and reviewed the security situation.
He reviewed the preparedness of the Army in the region and stressed on ensuring fail-safe security measures, Defence spokesman said.
The Western Army Commander appreciated the coordinated efforts being made by all security agencies in the area.
He was briefed by Lt Gen Y V K Mohan, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Rising Star Corps on the prevailing situation in the Jammu-Pathankot region and the security measures in place, the spokesman said.
