VHP, Bajrang Dal protest against waving of Pak flags

JAMMU, May 2: VHP and Bajrang Dal today protested against the waving of Pakistani flags during a rally by separatists in South Kashmir and demanded the arrest of Hurriyat leader Syeed Ali Shah Geelani.
Over 200 activists of VHP and Bajrang Dal led by Bajrang Dal convenor Rakesh Kumar, held protest demonstration against Geelani outside the Press Club area in the city.
Raising anti-Government and anti-Geelani slogans, they burnt his effigy and demanded his arrest along with others on sedation charges.
“We demand arrest of Geelani and others for waving Pakistani flags at a public rally in Tral belt of South Kashmir yesterday and State Government should take swift action against them,” Kumar said.
The rally held yesterday in Tral in South Kashmir, which was the first in seven years by the separatist leader in the militancy-infested township, witnessed pro-Pakistan sloganeering and waving of Pakistani flags.
He hit out at the Government for failure to curb separatists who are repeatedly waving Pakistani flags on Indian soil.
The workers of Dogra Front and Shiv Sena under the leadership of president of Ashok Gupta took out a procession in Jammu city and burned the Pakistani Flag along with the effigies of the Sayeed Ali Geelani against the waving of the Pakistan Flag in a rally in Kashmir and challenging the duration of Amarnath yatra.
Reacting strongly against the Hardline Hurriyat leader Syeed Ali Shah Geelani’s remarks on the annual Amarnath Yatra, State President, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan threatened to launch a strong agitation to protest against the curtailment of Amarnath Yatra duration.
In a statement issued today, Rajiv Mahajan said the Yatra shall commence from auspicious Jyeshth Purnima, a practice which has been going on for the last several years.
Asking that Hurriyat leaders does not entitle to interfere with the affairs of the Amarnath Yatra or its conduct or its dates, Rajiv Mahajan said, “If Muslims can visit their religious places during any time of the year, if Christians can visit their religious places during any time of the year, why can’t the Hindus be allowed to visit Amarnath Shrine as per their wish.”
