SRINAGAR, Nov 21: The Forest Department today seized a vehicle carrying illicit timber in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district while the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
Officials said that on reliable inputs, a team of Forest Protection Force headed by Assistant Director Manmeet Singh in association with Forest Territorial staff, seized a mini-load carrier bearing registration number JK05D/9640 carrying the illicit timber.
“The vehicle was loaded with illicit sawn finished Deodar and Kail timber to the tune of 11.14Cft (26 logs). The seizure was made on Baramulla-Sangri road and the driver namely Arshad Ahmad, son of Gh. Nabi Bhat resident of mohalla Khawaja Sahab, old Baramulla was apprehended on spot,” the officials said.
The officials said that the illicit timber being loaded in Mohalla Faqir Wani in Old Baramulla from the house of Nadeem Ahmad Sheikh. “The same was being ferried to Bawli Kanlibagh, Baramulla.
In this connection, FIR vide No: 246/2021 Dt:-21/11/2021 has been lodged against the driver and his associate Nadeem Sheikh, who the officials said, is a notorious timber smuggler, at Police Station, Baramulla.
