Veeri, Haq visit cloudburst hit areas

SRINAGAR, July 17: Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri today visited cloudburst areas of Aungmatipora and Hapatnar in Anantnag district and took stock of the damages caused to the infrastructure there.
District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Executive Engineers, Power, PHE, R&B, former MLA Rafi Ahmad Mir besides other District Officers accompanied the Minister.
The Minister also visited the affected families and took stock of the damages to their assets due to cloudburst. He assured the affected families to provide necessary compensation from the Government. He directed the concerned revenue authorities for immediate assessment of the loss enabling the Government to sanction the relief. Mr Veeri instructed the concerned Engineers for taking immediate steps to restore the essential services in the area which have suffered damages due to the incident of cloudburst. He stressed the need for taking up the works on war footing basis in view of the upcoming festivals.
The Minister directed the District Development Commissioner to personally monitor the progress of restorations and assessment of damages to the assets.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq also visited the cloudburst areas of Kangan in Ganderbal district and took stock of the situation.
While interacting with the affected people, the Minister expressed with them solidarity of Government and assured all possible help and support at this juncture.
On the occasion, the Minister handed over ex-gratia relief cheques worth Rs 1.5 lakh to next of the kins of each deceased family, besides ex-gratia of Rs 5000 to each injured persons. The Minister also gave directions for providing free ration for one month to the affected families.
Mr. Haq also inspected the temporary shelter site located for the affected families and directed the administration to make available all basic facilities to them.
Later, the Minister convened a meeting of officers there and issued directions for speedy restoration of essential services and supplies in the affected areas.
