DODA, June 17: A Village Defence Committee (VDC) member axed his wife to death and later committed suicide by shooting himself with his rifle in Bashal Shamthi village of Kastigarh, here today.
As per police sources, 45-year-old Dheeraj Raj (VDC member), son of Maan Singh, a resident of village Bashal Shamthi had some verbal dual with his 41-year-old wife Urmila.
In the fit of rage, Dheeraj axed his wife to death and later shot himself dead with his service rifle.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the District Hospital Doda for autopsy.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their family for last rites.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Doda Police Station and investigation started.
