VCT urges legislators to highlight issues of handicapped in Assembly

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 4: Viklang Chhatra Trust (VCT) has appealed J&K legislators to highlight the appalling plight of handicapped, old, infirm and widows in the upcoming assembly session.
In an open letter written to members of J&K State Legislative Assembly/Council, the Trust said a large number of handicapped, old, infirm and widows residing in your constituency have also contributed in your win by casting their valuable votes and now they are looking towards you for the resolution of their problems.
The letter said, “The assembly session has been summoned in the last of this month which provides an opportunity to the public representatives to highlight the problem of less fortunate persons. As notified, each MLA can submit question bill and resolutions. We fervently request you to submit at least one starred question regarding the welfare of handicapped, infirms, elderly and widows on humanitarian grounds”.
The problems highlighted by the Trust in the letter include irregular payment of pension, Government’s delaying attitude in raising the pension amount, non-implementation of 3 % reservation for handicapped, non-availability of artificial limbs as well as prosthetics, dearth of old age homes, etc.
