JAMMU, Feb 21: Viklang Chhatra Trust Old Care Society, a voluntary organization dedicated to the cause and care of handicapped, elders and destitute, has  appealed the Governor  N N Vohra to persuade the State Government to properly compensate the victims of Pak shelling  who have lost their kith and kin and suffered heavy losses.
In a letter sent to the Governor, Satya Pal Saraf, organizer VCT OCS,   said that the Govt apathy towards the innocent people of inhabitants of LoC and International Border in Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts speaks of its double standards.
He said that Union Cabinet in its meeting, held on August 24, 2016 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narindra Modi, had given approval for enhancement of compensation to the victims of cross border firing on Indian territory from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. One and half year have gone but the decision of the Government has not been implemented so far, he alleged.
Saraf lamented that merely lip sympathy cannot ameliorate the lots of border victims. He also quoted the case of two brothers of Sai Khurd, tehsil R.S.Pura who had lost their wives and themselves were gravely injured and rendered permanent disabled but not compensated so far by the State Government as per the decision of Union Cabinet even after the lapse of one and a half year. He also appealed the public representatives to persuade the State Govt for the disbursement of enhanced compensation without any further delay.
