VCs of SKUAST-K, KU, CUK call on Governor

SRINAGAR, July 6: Prof. Nazeer Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), met Governor N. N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Prof. Nazeer Ahmad briefed the Governor about several issues relating to infrastructural development, financial stringencies, re-organisation of available staff strength, filling up vacant posts of scientific staff and academic reform.
Apprising the Governor about the University’s activities and achievements, Prof. Ahmad informed that the University had conducted the Common Entrance Test for Undergraduate Programmes at different Centres in Srinagar and Jammu in which 8000 candidates appeared for 550 seats; during the current year 35 students from this University qualified NET and Agriculture Research Service Preliminary Examination;  11 students qualified Jr. Research Fellowship in Animal Biotechnology; since May 2017 University secured 10 externally funded projects worth Rs. 4 crore from different funding agencies in the country; the Integrated Bee Keeping Development Centre/Centre  of Excellence in Bee Keeping was launched at  University’s Shalimar Campus.
VC Informed that the ICAR has sanctioned Rs. 3.5 crores for infrastructure development of KVKs at Budgam, Anantnag and Kargil; Agriculture Production Department of the State Government has allotted 100 kanals of land at Haran, Soibugh, Budgam, for establishment of KVK; construction of KVK Kargil has commenced.
Governor stressed the need for high attention being paid on sustained basis to continually improving the teaching programmes and achieving tangible outcomes in all the research programmes.
Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir also called on Governor.
Dr. Andrabi informed the Governor about the functioning of the University and the present position regarding admissions, including those in the offsite campuses of the University. They discussed certain important matters relating to making up of academic time lost in 2016-17.
The Governor stressed the importance of ensuring against any deviation from the norm, among the faculty and the students, which vitiates the academic environment of the Campus and results in eroding the teaching and research programmes.
He re-iterated his concern about strict adherence to discipline and academic accountability and the need for teachers to remain closely connected with youth and guide them effectively.
Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, accompanied by scholars participating in an International Seminar on “Conservation of Environment and Role of Religion”, met Governor.
The participating scholars shared their views with Governor regarding the existing and arising challenges to the global environment, the phenomenon of climate change,  need for attention to conservation of bio-diversity, degradation of natural habitats and related issues and how these crucial problems needs to be addressed.
Prof. Leonard Swindler and Prof. Paul Mojzes from USA, Prof. Mustafa Ceric from Bosnia, Prof. Puninder Singh and Prof. Hamidullah Marazi-Coordinator of the Programme, accompanied the Vice Chancellor.
