VC visits girls’ hostels, directs to augment facilities in reading rooms

JAMMU, Feb 16: Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, made a surprise visit to the university’s girls hostels and after inspecting the facilities for the students, held a meeting to have on-the-spot feel of the functioning of various girls hostels of the university and get feedback of the boarders who apprised him of various general and hostel-related issues.
The Vice Chancellor assured the students and research scholars that the suggestions put forth by them with regard to further streamlining of the hostel and university functioning would get due consideration at appropriate level. Prof Dhar on the spot gave directions to the Superintendent Engineer JU and his team to augment the facilities in the reading rooms of the girls hostels so that in the late hours and on holidays, they are able to devote considerable and meaningful time to studies.
The boarders urged the Vice Chancellor for devising a mechanism wherein academics and research assume paramount importance on the Campus and other allied issues should not be allowed to dominate the basic objective of imparting quality education in the institute of higher learning.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor had also visited boys’ hostel situated in the old campus to review the functioning of the hostel and took round of the campus to interact with boarders and residents of the campus.
Besides others, the Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Prof Parminder Kour, Provost Girls Hostel and respective hostel wardens.
