JAMMU, July 27: Prof R D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu inaugurated the 10 days National Natural Resources Mana-gement System (NNRMS), ISRO sponsored programme in the University of Jammu here this morning .
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor lauded the efforts made by the Department of Remote Sensing & GIS for conducting such types of Training programme of Capacity Building in Geospatial Technologies.
Prof A. S. Jasrotia, Head, Department of Remote Sensing and Coordinator of this Training programme, in his welcome address, said that Jammu University is among the 25 centers across India and has been given the opportunity to conduct this training programme of Capacity Building for PGT teachers in Geographyof Kendriya Vidyalya (KV), Navodya Vidyalya (NV) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of higher secondary level to be trained in the field of Remote Sensing & GIS from July 27 to August 7, 2015.
He further said that the objectives of this programme is to generate the capacity building in Geospatial technology which enable them to teach contents given in the syllabus effectively, so that teachers shall be enabled to enhance Geospatial technologies among the students for better understanding of Geospatial technology.
The department has also started the Ph. D research program from the last session which will address the basic problems of the geospatial technology so that, growth of the young department shall be addressed automatically, he added.
During these ten days training programme on geospatial technologies for capacity building, lectures and practical components will be demonstrated by the resource person/Guest faculty as well as the faculty of the department so that the participants have the understanding of data and knowledge to handle the day today problems of geospatial technology.
Among others present, included Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Rajnikant, Director, Academic Staff College, Prof. Dilip Singh Jamwal, HoD Mathematics, Prof. R. K. Ganjoo, HoD Geology, Prof. V. S. Manhas, Deptt. of Geography, Prof. Prakash C. Anthal, Deptt. of Economics, Prof. Rampal, Deptt. of Environmental Sciences, faculty of various departments, scholars, and students of the Department.
