JAMMU May 31: Nav Durga Kala Manch staged a Hindustani play “Vasiyatnama” based on the story of Guru Rabindra Nath Tagore with the financial assistance given by Sangeet Natak Akademi at K.L Saigal Hall. The play is dramatically adapted,written and directed by Shashi Bhushan.
The play is all about the hunt of human race for money where one leaves no stone unturned to cheat even blood relations. The play depicts the pathos and strong beliefs of getting judgment one day by the almighty.
Kalipadh, who is the son of Raasmani went to Kolkatta for getting education so that he can become a lawyer and can search and found the will of his grandfather that has been lost somewhere during his childhood. His father who did nothing but always busy in gossiping in the village about the lost will (vasiyatnama) and often talks that one day will come when he gets the will of his father that has been stolen from the locked box.
The step brother of Kalipadh’s father has taken away the will and migrated to the city leaving kalipadh and his family in miserable condition in the village.
Kalipadh, who is very poor, lives in a very dilapidated room of guest house where other students belonging to rich family often mocked at him. Shailender who is very rich and often provides luxury items to his friends wants to help Kalipadh but he refuses and even never mix up with them. The foul smell emerges from the room make Kalipadh sick enough that shailender got him admitted in a clinic. He also called his father to look after him. During the conversation with kalipadh’s father, shailender came to know about the mission of Kalipadh.
Here, a secret reveals to shailender that Kalipadh is his uncle and his (Shailender) father has stolen the will. Meanwhile, Kalipadh dies and his father returned back to the village with all his hope and belief of getting the lost will as a mere dream. Suddenly, next day, they found a packet in which the lost will was present but now he didn’t want to have wealth of his father and destroy the will.
The artists who performed in the play includes Komal Parihar, Kusum Singh, Dilshad Shazi, Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Vineet Koul, Sanjay Sonkar, Ganesh, Vikas Giri, Ashish Bhat and Vikran Mehta. Music was handled by San J Saini while lights were executed by Kamaljit Singh and Kibu Kabir.
