Various functions mark Navreh celebrations

JAMMU, Mar 21: Various functions were organized by Kashmiri Pandits in connection with celebration of Navreh the (first day of Hindu New Year).
On the occasion, Dr R L Shant an eminent scholar was the chief guest while Swami Kumar Ji was the guest of honour. In his address Swami Kumar Ji threw light on the significance of Navreh for KPs and how the community was celebrating it from times immemorial in Kashmir Valley. He detailed about the nine days of  the Navratra festival as well.
Dr Shant said such festivals are signs of unity in the community and appealed the community to safeguard its social identity.
President ASKPC, R K Raina highlighted the conventional way of celebrating the festival by the community in Valley and stressed among unity in the community.
S K Bhat, Shiban Khaibri, B B Gosani and others also spoke on the occasion.
A huge gathering of devotees attended the annual function at Bhagawaan Gopinath Ji Ashram Udaiwala Bohri to mark the Navratra (Navreh) celebrations. The function started with Guru Vandana. As usual the Guru Gita recitation competition was held in which 35 competitors participated.
The function was presided over by P N Trisal. An eight day long spiritual function also started in the Ashram.
Another function was held at Swami Kumar Ji Geeta Satsangh Ashram in which Swami Ji threw light on the significance of Navreh. A large number of devotees attended the function and also participated in special pooja of Mata .
In connection with Navreh a grand function was held at Sanjeevani Sharda Kender Anand Nagar Bohri. A large number of devotees attended the function.
Dr M K Bharat was main speaker on the occasion. Tributes were paid to Shri Bhat a great KP physician who played a marvelous role in rehabilitation of Pandits back in Valley after their mass exodus in medieval times and King Lalitaditya a great warrior of Kashmir.
It was resolved to re-establish them. The birthday of Shri Bhat falls one day prior to Navreh while Lalitaditya’s Vijay Divas falls on next day of Navreh festival.
A function was organized by KPC at Dwarika, New Delhi in connection with Navreh celebrations in which Kundan Kashmiri threw light on the importance of the day.
He said the day reminds the community about the celebrations of the festival in Valley and said Navreh has lot of significance for the community. He regretted that the successive Governments have failed to redress the problem of the community who are leading now 26th year in exile and except hollow promises no steps are being taken to restore the rights of the community.
