JAMMU, Mar 26: Kashmir valley has been consuming more power as compared to the Jammu region during the past three years but revenue realization remains far less than Jammu.
During 2009-10, Kashmir valley consumed 5391 Million Units of electricity as compared to 3743 Million Units in Jammu region while as in 2010-11 Valley consumed 5917 Million Units in 2010-11 and Jammu consumed only 3981 Million Units. Similarly, 6136 Million Units were consumed in the Kashmir valley and 4266 Million Units in Jammu region during 2011-12 financial year.
However, the revenue realization remains contrary to the power consumption as during 2009-10 financial year Power Development Department recovered Rs 50762 lakh from the Jammu region and Rs 31594 .63 lakh from Kashmir valley.
During 2010-11, revenue realization from Kashmir valley was Rs 36322.74 lakh as against Rs 58717 lakh in Jammu region. Similarly, an amount of Rs 72132 lakh was recovered as power tariff from Jammu as against Rs 47982.69 lakh from Kashmir valley.
This information was provided by Minister In-charge Power Development Department in the Legislative Assembly in the written reply to the question of MLA from Domana, Bharat Bhushan.
In response to question of National Conference MLA and former Minister, Abdul Gani Malik regarding achievements made under New Power Generation Policy in the State, the Minister said that the State Government has approved the implementation framework for execution of hydroelectric projects in five modes—100% State owned project through JKSPDC, joint venture mechanism with CPSU, PPP mode, large and small IPP projects on BOOT basis.
“Twenty four projects with the capacity of 2270.50 Mega Watt are under implementation/allotted while as 29 projects of 2254.30 Mega Watt capacity have been tendered out for allotment”, the Minister said, adding “five projects with the capacity of 4512 Mega Watt have been prioritized for which DPR is under preparation and investigation taken up”.
About the execution of micro/mini projects falling within the ambit of Science and Technology Department, he said, “108 potential sites have been identified for survey, investigation and preparation of DPRs”, adding “in the first phase the Science and Technology Department has tendered out six potential sites with cumulative capacity of 9.95 MWs for execution under IPP mode for which the successful bidders have been selected and Letter of Acceptance (LOA) is being issued shortly”.
“Ten more potential sites falling in Ganderbal, Anantnag, Ramban and Poonch districts have been tendered out in the 2nd phase for execution under IPP mode”, he said, adding “projects above 2 MW (small, large and mega) are being executed by State Power Development Corporation”.
