SOPORE, Apr 6: Former Minister and Member AICC, Abdul Gani Vakil, today appreciated Shahi Imam for appealing Muslims to support Congress party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Describing Imam’s decision as a patriotic one and in right direction at the right time, he appealed everyone to follow Shahi Imam for the sake of country and keeping it united.
Vakil said that Hindu, Muslim, Sikh brotherhood is inevitable for national integration and need of the hour is to further strengthen this bond of true secularism and keep communal and divisive forces at bay to avoid another 1947 like situation.
“Shahi Imam has accepted Congress policies at National Level which proves that this is the only party having ability to credibly protect the minorities of the Country in every nook and corner”, Vakil said while addressing party workers convention at Nowpora, here today.
The former Minister reiterated that country is now passing through a crucial and sensitive phase as BJP has diverted from the course of positive politics in India. He said this type of illegitimate political tactics have never been endorsed or appreciated in the country since independence.
It was resolved in the convention that every effort will be made to counter the communal forces in the interest of the Country.
Cautioning people of those forces like Modi who are dreaming of abrogation of Article 370, he asserted that Congress will never allow it to happen and will resist every move at every level to safeguard Article 370.
On Hurriyat’s election boycott, he said there is no logic in propagating election boycott in Kashmir, which only contributes in strengthening and encouraging the corrupt people.
Advising Hurriyat to revisit their decision, Vakil said every issue of whatever nature can be resolved through dialogue as world history is witness to the fact that violence has been replaced by a peaceful dialogue.
