Srinagar, Aug 29: Arrangements for 25th Police Public Mela being organized in Srinagar on September 7, were finalised at a high level meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. Chaired by the Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) (ADGP), S. P. Vaid, the meeting was attended by senior police officers including the members of arrangements committees of the Mela.
While discussing the arrangements made for the mega event, Mr. Vaid sought reports from different committees, constituted for making the arrangements. It was informed that the required arrangements have been put in for the day long Mela. Sale of raffle draw tickets is in progress at various places across the State and the people are showing keen interest in getting tickets. It was also informed that the stall holders from various police establishment centres are reaching here before three days of the Mela with their products and are establishing their stalls at the identified space. They would ensure to display their items in a befitting manner.
Mr. Vaid, addressing the meeting said that Police Public Mela has gained faith and fame at large scale as the event provides an opportunity to police and the public to get together and interact. The occasion has helped to strengthen police public relations and people from all shades of life are enjoying the occasion. He stressed to introduce more items in the Mela representing different regions of the State to make the event more attractive for the public. He also asked the officers to ensure sale of tickets on the Mela day also at the venue by establishing special sale counters.
The ADGP disclosed that this time 1211 fabulous prizes including a bumper prize costing more than Rs. 6 lakh has been included in the raffle draw which has increased the people’s attraction. The transparency in raffle draw has strengthened the trust of the people upon the organizers. Mela will be inaugurated at Bakshi Stadium at 10 am and raffle draw will be held at 4 pm in presence of public, he added. Prizes would be handed over to the winners on-the-spot on production of original tickets.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, VK Singh, SM Sahai and Dilbag Singh, IGPs, Dr. B Srinivas, AK Choudhary, Deepak Kumar, HK Lohia, AG Mir, SJM Gillani, MS Salaria, MA Khan, Sunil Kumar Sharma, T. Punchok, Sunil Kumar, SL Sharma and M. A. Ganai, DIG, MM Sadiq, AIGPs, AA Kakroo, Tahir Sajad and Rajeshwear Singh and other police officers.
