Using issues in China, India mocks at Pak for “meddling” in internal affairs of neighbours

NEW DELHi: India on Thursday made a veiled attack on Pakistan for “meddling” in internal affairs of other countries including India.

“Normally it is not our practice to comment on matters pertaining to internal matters of other countries. But on the contrary Pakistan and its leadership have this compulsive habit,” MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar told reporters when asked to comment on continuous mass detention of Uyghur ethnic minorities in western province of China.

“I may, therefore, suggests to address this question to Pakistan and its leadership as they have been commenting relentlessly on the status of minorities in India and have continuously meddled in the internal affairs of India and other neighbouring countries,” Mr Kumar said.

According to media reports, the Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hami Aksoy has said it is “no longer a secret” that China has arbitrarily detained more than a million Uyghurs in “concentration camps”.
Mr Aksoy was referring to China’s alleged ‘mass incarceration’ of the Muslim Uyghur minority situated in the north-western province of Xinjiang a region said to have been incorporated into modern China in 1949.

For its part, Indian MEA spokesman’s remarks are significant enough vis-a-vis Indo-Pak relations as none other than Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had recently made comments on the status of minorities in India.
Last week Imran Khan has been quoted as saying that his government “would not allow minorities to be treated like second class citizens like those experienced by minorities in India.

In response to media queries on remarks made by Pak PM, the MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar had on February 9 said: “The Pakistan Prime Minister’s remarks are an egregious insult to all citizens of India… Pakistan’s Prime Minister has yet again demonstrated his lack of understanding about India’s secular polity and ethos”.
