JAMMU, Mar 25: Usha Vohra, First Lady and President of ASHI, chaired the Annual General Body meeting of Association for Social Health in India (ASHI), J&K Branch, here at the Raj Bhavan, today.
The General Body held extensive discussions to identify new projects and activities which will be undertaken by ASHI during 2016-17.
During the course of the AGBM, the members apprised Mrs. Vohra about the activities undertaken by them for achieving the objectives of the organization. Among the various decisions taken in meeting ASHI members undertook to impart education and vocational training to young girls in the rural areas.
Mrs Vohra urged ASHI members to focus sharply on the empowerment of women and girl children through skill endowment. Discussions also took place regarding the need to enlarge the organization’s financial base for progressively making it as financially self sustaining as may be possible.
On behalf of the Governor, Mrs. Vohra presented a cheque of Rs.6 lakh for the advancement of ASHI’s activities.
The AGBM also conducted elections to its Governing and Executive Bodies.
At the start of meeting, the members of ASHI condoled the demise of Gen. K.V. Krishna Rao, former Patron of ASHI; Mufti Mufti Sayeed, former Chief Minister of J&K; and Sneh Chopra, Nirmal Ogra, Sunanda Padha, Sanjeev Sharma, son of Raj Sharma, members of ASHI. A one minute silence was observed as mark of respect for the departd souls.
Sushma Choudhary, Vice-President ASHI; Prof. Kailash Rajput, Secretary; Prof. Sarla Kohli; Prof. Rita Jitendra were among the over 60 members of ASHI who were present in the meeting.
