Sir,
The Prime Minister’s call to the power consumers for the increased use of LED bulbs with a view to conserve energy needs to be taken seriously by one and all.Our country is facing an acute energy crisis with the traditional sources of energy being exhausted at a fast pace. With the increase in energy consumption due to fast industrialisation coupled with swelling population, the demand for energy has increased manifold. So there is a dire need to conserve energy by every possible means. The LED bulbs which are many times more efficient than ordinary bulbs and CFLsneed to be extensively used to conserve eneregy.Though the LED bulbs are a bit costlier than the incandescent bulbs and fluorscent bulbs, they have a long life about fifty times more than ordinary bulbs and eight to ten times than that of CFLs and produce more light by consuming less energy. Thus they prove energy efficient and cost efficient in the long run.The Prime Minister has rightly emphasised that these bulbs should be gifted instead of diaries and calenders to the children and friends on the eve of new year and other occassions so that they learn how useful and cost effective they are and thus use them to save energy.
The need of the hour, therefore, is to create awareness in the masses about the need to conserve energy by using LED bulbs in homes, factories and other public places. They should also be gifted on birthdays of friends and relatives as an innovative present which can be cherished for years together. In order to popularise the use of LEDs, it is imperative that they are made available to the consumers, especially those living below the poverty line, on concessional rates. Moreover, it will also be better if all the government and semigovernment offices are asked to use LEDs in their offices and premises to serve as an example for the consumers to conserve energy.LEDs should also be used by the Municipal Corporations and other Local Bodies as source of light in streets.
Yours etc….
