US not to release Middle East peace plan before Israeli election

WASHINGTON, Aug 29: The United States will not release its long-awaited and disputed Middle East peace plan before the Israeli election, said a senior Trump administration official on Wednesday.
“We have decided that we will not be releasing the peace vision (or parts of it) prior to the Israeli election,” said Jason Greenblatt, US President Donald Trump’s envoy for international negotiations, in a tweet.
Washington’s plan for the Israeli-Palestinian peace, also known as the “Deal of the Century,” was largely devised by Trump’s senior advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who revealed the economic aspect of the deal in a workshop in Bahrain in June.
The Palestinians have repeatedly voiced their opposition to the plan, pointing to Washington’s heavily tilted position toward Israel.
New elections have been called after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition. The snap elections are scheduled to be held on Sept. 17.
