Urmimala Das becomes Fulbright DAI Alumnus

JAMMU, May 28: Urmimala Das, Headmistress, Chinar Primary School (of Sainik School Nagrota) has returned from the USA after successfully completing her Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Programme for International Teachers (Fulbright DAI) at Arizona State University, Phoenix, USA.
She was one of the 54 distinguished teachers chosen for the programme from around the world through an elaborate and stringent selection process, to represent India at this programme.
The Fulbright DAI is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, US Department of State to promote mutual understanding among people of the United States and other countries.
Fulbright DAI is a semester-long professional development programme conducted at various universities in America. The programme provides unique opportunity to pursue individual or group projects, take courses for professional development at the host university, and observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local schools. Cultural enrichment, mentoring and support are also provided throughout the programme.
A handout stated that during this programme, Urmimala Das has also completed her Inquiry Project titled “Elements of Dance can Improve Emotional Intelligence in ELT Classroom” and conducted various workshops for American and other International Teachers at Phoenix and Washington DC. On completion of her programme and meritorious contribution, she was awarded Certificate by Arizona State University at Phoenix and Department of State, Government of USA at Washington DC.
After returning home, Urmimala Das intends to offer follow-on training for teachers of Jammu & Kashmir and undertake suitable collaborative projects with other schools that build on the exchange experience.
