JAMMU, Feb 21: Reiterating resolve of the Government to upgrade rural infrastructure, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that development of remote and border belts is high on the agenda of the present dispensation and focused attention is being paid to equip these areas with all required modern infrastructure. He said work on the road map to address development aspirations of those living in far-flung areas has already begun and soon result of these initiatives would become visible on ground.
He was addressing monthly public meeting at Pargwal.
Taking cognizance to the difficulty being faced by the people while crossing Chenab waters due to lack of bridge connectivity, the Deputy Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 6 lakh from his CDF for purchase of new boats.
Highlighting multi faceted role of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Tara Chand said empowering people at grass root level through PRIs has ensured direct involvement of people in development of their respective areas, besides playing a major role in making people aware of various schemes and programs launched by the Government from time to time.
He called upon Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area to make sure that more and more people get themselves registered for availing benefits under prestigious schemes of SKEWPY, Labour Schemes, Kissan Credit Cards and other welfare schemes.
The Deputy Chief Minister gave directions to PDD authorities for realizing genuine tariff from users and ensure that consumers are not harassed by getting exaggerated bills, adding that genuine bills should be delivered and people must also clear their power bills as the Government is already supplying power at subsidized rates and poor revenue realization negatively impacts power purchase.
He issued directions to the concerned for proper de-silting of the canal and instructed Irrigation Department to charge as per metered use.
He directed the BDO not to start works without taking Gram Sabha into confidence and actively involve PRI functionaries in deciding the priority of development works initiated in respective Panchayats.
Mr. Tara Chand also visited different schools of the area and inspected status of buildings and staff strength and said that flagship programmes of SSA and RMSA would go a long to improve the facilities provided in schools all across the State.
At Middle School Bhalwal Bharath, new building was sanctioned in place of the unsafe portion of school building.
