Update electoral rolls for DGPC elections: Sikh organizations

JAMMU, July 22: Various Sikh organizations today asked the Government to direct the concerned authorities to update the electoral rolls including all the eligible voters and exclude in-eligible ones as pointed in the writ petition for the conduct of District Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (DGPC) elections.
Addressing a press conference, Mohinder Singh, president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) demanded preparation of fresh electoral rolls having photograph of each voter, so as to avoid bogus votes for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the DGPC elections.
Delimitation process in view of creation of new districts in the State be initiated and completed after taking all DGPCs and other leading Sikh organizations into confidence and upto their satisfaction, he demanded.
Singh appealed the Sikh voters in all the constituencies to get names of new eligible voters enlisted and get excluded the name of ineligible voters.
He also appealed to all the Sikh organization, Sikh personalities, religions heads to come forth and work for census rather than elections as formation of DGPC is for the service to the community for managing the Gurudwara affairs.
Singh appealed to all Sikh community people of J&K to participate in the ensuing Gurudwara elections with full enthusiasm.
Among others present were Ram Singh Wazir, secretary, SAD (A), HS Raina, Jagjit Singh, Shamsher Singh, Ranjit Singh, Suchwant Singh, Roshan Singh, Attar Singh, Dalip Singh, Manmeet Singh, etc.
