Lecture on breast feeding held

JAMMU, Aug 1: Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu in collaboration with All India Institute of Medical Sciences Vijaypur held lecture on breast feeding Jammu as part of the directions from Secretary, Health and Medical education, Bhupinder Kumar for a closer co-operation between Health institutions J&K.
A workshop on the theme “Enabling Breast Feeding, making a difference for working parents” was held jointly by department of Paediatrics & Gynae Obs.. Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu & AIIMS Vijaypur Jammu.
Dr. Shakti Gupta, Director AIIMS Vijaypur, who chaired the session appreciated the joint effort by two institutions & also desired to have such collaborations in future. He desired to establish a milk bank in future in upcoming AIIMS on the pattern of Asia’s largest milk bank at SION Hospital Mumbai. He further stressed to establish Breast feeding friendly work spaces in all the institutions.
Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu welcomed the guests & discussed the theme to provide maternity benefits not only to Govt. employees but also in private sector with at-least 18 weeks & preferably 6 months paid maternity leave.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Dean (Academic Affairs AIIMS Vijaypur Jammu) & Ex-HoD Community Medicine GMC Jammu stressed to promote actions that enables breast feeding to working women regardless of nature of work & creating a better environment for breast feeding at workplace, once they return to duty.
Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Senior Consultant Paediatrics Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu discussed the world Breast feeding week 2023 theme, its importance, facilities & benefits required to be extended to the working women in the interest of exclusive breast feeding. He also emphasized on the detailed advantages of the breast feeding for the baby, mother, community & the nation.
Others key speakers included Dr. Samriti Gupta, Assistant Professor Paediatrics with Topic on “Bottlenecks in breast feeding”, Dr. Sheetal Ganjoo, Assistant Professor Paediatrics emphasized on schedule & technique of breast feeding, Dr. Renu Sharma, Associate Professor Gynae & Obs. spoke on Antenatal counseling regarding breast feeding.
Other participants included Dr. Meeta Gupta, Professor & Head Gynae & Obs. ARMS Vijaypur, Dr. Amandeep Kour Anand, HoD Gynae & Obs., Dr. Naresh Khajuria of Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu. Matron Supervisors, Staff Nurses & students of ANMT School Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
