UP will get most from Railways in return for maximum MPs: Prabhu

LUCKNOW, Dec 2: With Assembly elections round the corner in Uttar Pradesh, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today said since the state sent the “maximum number” of BJP MPs to the Lok Sabha, it will get a lion’s share of railway reforms.

“Uttar Pradesh will get the major share of reforms being undertaken in Railways. The state has sent the maximum number of (BJP) MPs to the Lok Sabha and, therefore, it is in the fitness of things that the state gets more,” he said.

In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP won in 71 of the 80 seats and two went to its ally Apna Dal.

Prabhu was speaking after laying the foundation of various projects at Gomtinagar railway station in presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is the local MP.

Noting that a large number of people belonging to Uttar Pradesh are living in other states, he said it will be his endeavour to ensure that the Railways provide them maximum facility, and added that during the Modi Government, Uttar Pradesh got railway projects worth Rs 43,453 crore.

A fund is being created for the safety of passengers Prabhu said, and alleged that in the past due attention was not paid towards developing facilities in proportion to the increase in the number of passengers.

Earlier, Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 40,000 crore was being invested in the Railways annually which has been raised to Rs 1.31 lakh crore in 2016-17, the minister said. (PTI)
