Why should there be unwarranted and unjustified restrictions imposed in one or the other form in respect of annual pilgrimage to Shri Amarnath Ji in Kashmir. While the pilgrimage starts this year from July 1, the Langar Sanasthans or providers of free community kitchen facilities have been put under severe restrictions not to cross the Jawahar Tunnel on the Jammu -Srinagar National Highway after June 21. Shri Amarnath Shrine Board seems to be behaving quite arbitrarily only to antagonise the pilgrims instead of being facilities providers. There were no such restrictions last year and these Langar organisations were free to cross the tunnel at any convenient date to them.
These organisations must be given at least 15 days time to establish their langars en-route the Yatra and instead of being more accommodative to them looking to the cause they serve , they should be treated so casually by the Shrine Board has given space to avoidable controversy and hardly any year passes when one or the other problem is not created for this pilgrimage which is beyond comprehension. Shri Amarnath Shrine Board already having more than sufficient financial base should instead have volunteered to provide such free of cost eating outlets at various places on the route but instead has come out with this vague restriction which should immediately be withdrawn with expressing regrets looking to the difficulties these organisations otherwise face in establishing their tents etc at heights and under harsh climate. They are rendering services free of any cost and not earning a penny which should rattle the conscience of those who issued such ‘farman’.
