Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Leadership doesn’t mean leading people to violence : Rawat DE Dec 27. The Army Chief Bipin Rawat was unnecessarily criticised, rather villified by some politicians of the country for the remark that ‘leadership doesn’t mean leading people to violence’.
One does not understand why these leaders came in droves to attack the Army Chief for the innocuous remark. The true leadership is a guiding forces which inspires, encourages and teaches people how to face complex situations in life that one confronts on daily basis. In public domain, leaders bind people of different faiths, in a strand of unity. They do not make people fight with each other, but help them live in mutual coexistence and communal harmony.
Today, the country is passing through a critical stage as people of different religious denominations have started suspecting each other’s intention. The recent riots in different parts of the country in the wake of CAA could not have taken place, had the leaders of all political parties not provoked people for their vested interests. Even now, if these leaders wish they could bridge the gap between these communities. Besides, it does not behave these parties to drag the general in politics to score browne points over each other.
The Army is an apolitical institution. It has its own set of rules and regulations, and it very well knowns its responsibility towards the nation. Even if the statement was politically loaded, he did not deserve such a flak. The politicians should behave properly when it involves our defence forces.
