Unthankfulness- Ingratitude- Unexpressed gratitude- this attitude has become an integral part of society. It means not appreciating what we have or forgetfulness of kindness received. If we ask most people if they are ungrateful, they’ll probably reply, “of course not”! Basically, this attitude is so ingrained in our lives, that we don’t even realise that we are ungracious.
In today’s fast- paced world, most people seem to have no time for thankfulness. Work, family and so many other things keeps us so engrossed and have slowly become our priority that saying ‘Thankyou’ for things have become secondary. Think deeply!
Have we ever felt unappreciated by family or friends? Have we ever given a gift to someone and not received thanks? How strange does it feel?
Selfishness- this attitude has been prevailing and getting deep into this world. Society has got into materialistic mentality- the so called ‘ you work hard, only then you deserve a gift’ mentality.
And with this attitude, there is a belief in the ideology that if they do not acquire the extravagant luxuries, life is somehow treating them unjustly. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, but we have FORGOTTEN GOD! We want everything but we forget the gracious hand which is giving us everything.
THANKYOU and PLEASE, the two most powerful weapons are disappearing with each passing day. We should never run out of people to thank. ‘ Count your blessings, not your worries’. A very simple statement that has a very effective impact. Why we never thank god for all the terrible things that we have not had to endure? In spite of thanking, people grudge for all the foolish things they don’t have- why they don’t have a son? Why their complexion is black? Why they don’t have money to buy an expensive car? I mean, really?
Are these real reasons to be worried for? It has become so common these days to constantly grumble and complain about the worries and problems. Think of the things that people do for us- from may be opening a door to giving a kind word of appreciation. We live in an age where common courtesy has become extinct.
People have started feeling that the word ‘ Thankyou’ and ‘Sorry’ is a sign of weakness. It is not weakness but MEEKNESS. A little ‘thankyou’ that we say to someone for a little favour shown to us is like a key to unlock the doors that hide unseen greater favours.
Gratitude comes in sepectrum of colours.
But ingratitude is always black
The other day I saw a handicapped person doing temple chores. He couldn’t walk properly nor he could speak in a proper way. Still he was cleaning the god sculptures, still he was thanking god for all the things he possess. These are the real life hero’s who inspite of all the odds manage to smile with the evens. The attitude of gratitude needs to be inculcated in our souls.
In our modern civilisation, the attitude ‘ more is better’ is dominating. We feel our materialistic need brings us happiness but still we are not happy. Why? Because of lack of gratitude. Instead of looking at ourselves and our bad habits, we blame everyone else for our losses.
Just like law of attraction, law of gratitude also works. Expressing sincere gratitude for what we have guarantees that we will attract more good things into our lives. Showing gratitude is not only an individual’s job. A nation is equally responsible for showing thankfulness.
“ An unthankful nation is an unthinking nation, and it’s people are in mortal danger – Dr. Sweetings. Every country should have a mission to serve meals to those who are hungry. Laws should be implemented that children should not be used for labor and compensation should be paid to all workers who are unemployed. These are small thanksgiving gestures. We should always bow our heads and hearts and give sincere thanks to God for being privileged to live in this wonderful world.
Stop being ungrateful!
No matter how good or bad you have, wake up each day thankful for your life. Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs. Instead of thinking about what you are missing, try thinking about what you have and everyone else is missing.
