University in Ladakh

I
Sir,
This is in reference to the article ‘University in Ladakh’ DE Nov 14, 2018. The author is sincere in his efforts to highlight the urgent need of a full fledged university in Ladakh region. The student population has grown manifold since a degree college was opened in Leh in 2003. It’s a cogent demand from the student community.
Although three more degree colleges and other higher centres of learning have been established still the lacuna remains. An appeal has been drafted by the author who has provided a whole array of subject disciplines, research facilities, learning that an independent university could provide.

Sir,
This has reference to the demand made by Ladakhi students for opening a University in the region. The concerned authorities should not dismiss the suggestion as of no significance. Rather they should take serious note of it, on account of being quite genuinue in the interest of student fraternity of the Ladakh region.
In absence of this university, student community suffers a lot. Students usually have to go other places like Jammu, Kashmir, Delhi and other parts of the country for seeking higher education. This entails lot of money which every aspirant here can’t afford. The huge expenditure on education these days is beyond the reach of a common man.
It has been observed that most of the students after completing graduation from Leh colleges have to give up further studies as they can’t move to other places for one reason or the other. Female students become a big casuality.
Besides, if Jammu and Kashmir provinces have many State and Central Universities, does not Ladakh deserve a single university?
A university in this cold region is need of the hour as it would become not merely a centre of learning, but a symbol of India’s inclusive approach towards its people.
