SRINAGAR, July 12: The unit holders of the Industrial Estate Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today protested against the unscheduled power cuts that are severely hampering the functioning of their business units.
Scores of unit holders participated in a strong protest demonstration against the power crisis in the estate and raised slogans against the Power Development Department for failing to mitigate the crisis. They expressed disappointment that despite the Government acknowledging that industries are the key to reducing unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, basic facilities are being denied to them.
“They Government claims that tourism and industries can eradicate unemployment. However, we are experiencing unscheduled power cuts. First, they cut power for two full days without informing the people, and then they provide us with electricity for only 3-4 hours,” a protestor said
He said they have been facing significant losses due to the persistent power crisis over the past two months, with an average daily loss of around 2-3 Crores. “Many unit holders are considering relocating the units to Jammu,” another protestor said.
The protestors warned of a massive agitation if their demands are not met and urged the administration to intervene in the matter.
Later, he inspected ongoing construction work of Yatri Bhawan, Sapphire Guest House and Mushroom Tents in Gulabgarh. The concerned authorities were directed to work in double shifts and make the facilities available for pilgrims well before the start of the yatra.
SDM Paddar was directed to monitor the progress of work on these projects and ensure quality of work.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to provide adequate facilities, including healthcare, sanitation, water, electricity, langar points, accommodation, and security arrangements to the devotees undertaking the Shri Machail Mata Yatra.
He directed the concerned departments to meticulously implement the prescribed guidelines, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable pilgrimage experience for all participants.
