SRINAGAR : Mr. Vinay Sheel Oberoi, Union Secretary, Higher Education called on Mr. N.N. Vohra, here at the Raj Bhavan today. He was accompanied by Mr. Praveen Kumar, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, Mr. P.K. Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Governor and Ms. Sarita Chauhan, Commissioner/ Secretary, Higher Education were also present.
Mr. Oberoi informed the Governor about the commencement of on-line counseling from today at Srinagar and Jammu for admission of 5000 students of J&K under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme to UGC recognized institutions outside the State. The admissions are open to various courses under Engineering, Medicine, Sciences, Humanities and Commerce disciplines.
The Union Secretary also informed the Governor about various measures being taken by the MHRD for the advancement of higher education in the country. The Governor stressed the need for improving the quality of higher education in the State and sought MHRD’s sustained support in this regard. Issues relating to the implementation of Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and strengthening of infrastructure of the Universities in the State were also discussed.
