PRAYAGRAJ, Oct 1: Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday launched a cleanliness initiative under the Amrit Mahotsav of independence in the country from the Sangam city.
The campaign aims to dispose 75 lakh kg of waste by October 31.
The nationwide event started from four Ganga ghats on the Sangam.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur attended the Swachh Bharat program at the Auditorium Hall of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNIT).
He said that just as the people of Prayagraj played a leading role in the freedom movement, in the same way the people of Sangam city will create history in cleanliness.
He said that thinking has to be developed among the people for cleanliness.
“Just as the country was freed from the Britishers, similarly this program has been started to free the country from filth. During this the minister gave the slogan of, do friendship with cleanliness, small thinking leads to big achievements. Cleanliness would also be a true tribute to the martyrs ” he said.
At Chandrashekhar Azad Park, the Union Minister paid homage to the statue of Chandrashekhar Azar by garlanding him. After this sapling was also planted in Azad Park.
On this occasion, UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Phulpur MP Keshari Devi Patel, MLA Harshvardhan Vajpayee and other dignitaries were present. (UNI)
