JAMMU, Apr 17: Jammu and Kashmir Oil and LPG Tank Truck Drivers and Cleaners Union urged the Government to provide them relief at par with labourers and also cover them under different schemes run by Labour Department.
In his appeal to the Labour Commissioner, Union president Ranjit Singh Raina described the plight of the daily wage drivers, cleaners and other crew members of the tanks and truck carrying essential petroleum product pleading free ration and some cash for medicines as the daily wage drivers and cleaners are finding it too difficult to feed their family members due to lockdown.
Spokesperson of the Union, Harasis Singh informed that the tank and truck drivers were the worst hit victims of this countrywide lockdown. “However, they acknowledge the efforts of the Government of India and J&K UT in providing relief to the stranded migrant workers but unfortunately the drivers and cleaners are also facing the same situation,” he added.
He revealed that the Union president and other office bearers daily receive dozens of distress calls from the poor daily wage drivers and their family members for help and the union with its limited resources do whatever possible but without the Government assistance, it is impossible to help them.
They said the drivers like doctors, paramedic staff and police are on frontline in the war against this intangible enemy but their plight should also be addressed.
