JAMMU, Dec 12: Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Rural Development S.M. Vijay Anand, who is on two day visit of Jammu, conducted extensive tour of Bhalwal and Akhnoor blocks and interacted with the representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions and Gram Sabhas.
He inspected various ongoing developmental works taken up under MGNREGA, SGSY, IAY, TSC (Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan) and had first hand information of the working of the Panchayats and evaluated the empowerment of the Panchayats and powers being devolved to them.
Mr.Anand interacted with the Sarpanchs of Jammu Province and had their feedback about the Centrally Sponsored Schemes. He impressed upon the officers and Sarpanchs to create awareness among the masses about the benefits of the scheme so that people come forward to extend support in implementing the scheme and achieving enhanced livelihood opportunities for the poor masses.
Among others Farooq Ahmed Peer, Commissioner/ Secretary Department of Rural Development, Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Director Rural Development Jammu, Tufail Ahmed Mattoo, Director Rural Sanitation and K.K Sidha, Assistant Commissioner Development Jammu alongwith the concerned BDO were present on the occasion.
Mr. Anand convened a meeting of all Assistant Commissioners Development, Project Officers and District Panchayat Officers of Jammu Province and reviewed the progress of MGNREGA, SGSY, NRLM,BADP, IAY,TSC (Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan). He enjoined upon the officers to conduct proper monitoring and evaluation of the schemes, so as to ensure the benefits of the schemes percolate to the downtrodden people.
