JAMMU, Feb 22: A large number of unemployed diploma engineers held protest demonstration against the J&K Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) authorities outside the Governor House at Panjtirthi today, demanding cancellation of recently released list of Junior Engineers (Civil).
A large number of diploma holder unemployed civil engineers assembled at Raj Bhavan gate near Radio Station here today and started protest demonstration followed by dharna. They were shouting slogans against the SSRB authorities and the State Administration for biased approach towards Diploma holders. They also alleged several flaws in the selection list and demanded high level inquiry and cancellation of the list. They alleged the merit list was also prepared later after hue and cry by the candidates in hush-hush manner.
They strongly resented the criteria of the SSRB Board authorities and alleged that earlier there was criteria of 1:3 for the diploma and degree holders but this time out of 633 candidates selected as JEs only 35 diploma holders were taken despite the fact that a large number of diploma holders had qualified the written test. After holding protest dharna they submitted a memorandum to a senior official of the Governor House for N N Vohra. They also handed over all the relevant documents and selection list. They alleged favouritism and nepotism and maintained that list was most unfair and it should be cancelled. They demanded that due share be provided to the Diploma holders out of their quota.
The aggrieved candidates alleged that applications for the posts of JE civil in PHE and R&B were accepted in February 2012, December 2013 and then May 2013 for the posts of 115, 100 and then 418. But for all these posts only one written test was conducted in August 2014. There was no advertisement for these posts after May 2013, but interestingly about eight candidates figured in the selection list who passed out in 2014. It indicated that something wrong has happened which is needed to be exposed. They demanded high level inquiry and cancellation of the list as it was most unfair.
They appeal to the Governor to intervene immediately and take action in this regard. They also resolved to start indefinite dharna at the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu from Monday.
